TLS-HVRP: Employment Assistance and Links to Shelter

uncle samVeterans, we want you! To succeed

TLS’ Homeless Veterans’ Reintegration Program is funded by a grant from the Department of Labor to help homeless veterans find meaningful employment.

The program fills a special need because it serves veterans who may be shunned by other programs because of problems such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, addictions and legal issues.

It offers veterans a chance to reclaim their self-worth.

Finding and maintaining a job is the program’s overarching goal because employment is essential to a life of self reliance and promise. When needed, links to food, shelter, clothing and rehabilitative services are provided so that participants can overcome barriers to employment.

TLS-HVRP case managers work with veterans throughout Chicago’s northwest suburbs. Each enrollee is encouraged to take advantage of services that will lead them back into labor force, including:

  • Classroom training
  • Vocational counseling
  • Job preparation
  • Job-search assistance
  • Subsidized trial employment
  • On-the-job training
